Page 16: Proximity to Truth, protecting yourself from exploitation

Proximity to Truth (PTT) may vary widely in the ways humans interpret observed phenomena. Although I am incapable of evaluating these proximities objectively–because, again, I am not immune to the lens of limitations of my cultural Belief System–it is likely that some interpretations have nearer PTT than others.

Some Interpretations are not sincere or genuine. All belief systems are vulnerable to exploitation by individuals seeking self-enrichment. People sometimes simply do not have a relationship with reality; humans are imaginative creatures, greed is common, and mental illness is real.

Entering spaces of unverifiability can make us vulnerable. Avoid exploitation: Do not exult or deify charismatic personalities; do not give labor to high-control groups; do not give money to organizations or individuals. An open mind is lovely, but predators seek to exploit you, your labor, your finances.

Assume anything resembling paranoid delusions is what it looks like unless vigorous objective evidence is available.

Remember: Truth is Truth; sincere science and spirituality are likely to agree. Claims in isolation from historical, cultural, theosophical, and scientific consensus should provoke grave skepticism.

  • Russell’s Teapot is a skeptic’s example of wholly unverifiable claims.
  • Scientology is based upon actual fiction and is a high-control group.
  • MKUltra seemed like paranoid fantasy, but real evidence exists to support its historicity.
  • PTT is a term only applying to genuine attempts to interpret observations in non-scientific ways.
