Ontology is the philosophical study of being. It is traditionally understood as the subdiscipline of metaphysics focused on the most general features of reality. As one of the most fundamental concepts, being encompasses all of reality and every entity within it. To articulate the basic structure of being, ontology examines the commonalities among all things and investigates their classification into basic types, such as the categories of particulars and universals.
Humans are not fundamentally better or more important than other organisms or intelligences. We are no more central to the universe than anything else. No individual, culture, society, species, or point in history is more central than any other.
Humans are not especially smarter in contemporary times than earlier in modernity (5000+ years), nor even in the distant prehistoric period (50,000+ years). The major difference is that our ability to pass information we’ve developed through generations has improved, and our growing canon of knowledge is cumulative, so we can build on the greater foundations of our ancestors.
Ontological Truth has been observed since the earliest humans, so a lot of fundamental religious and spiritual concepts are in agreement because they are working off similar observations. Likewise, science will reach similar conclusions because it is a modern, methodical method of observing the same conditions.
Ontological Truths will not be surprising, and in fact, seem obvious and well-trodden because of these long-lasting universal observations.
In Rational Esotericism, we tend to think Interpretations of observations won’t be very accurate because of filtration through Belief Systems. Interpretations remain valuable because observations spanning cultures, societies, and time periods suggest Rationality.
